TMJ Disorders

Temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) disfunction occurs when the joints are subjected to excess pressure through misalignment of the teeth, muscles and jaw.

Diagnosis

Often misdiagnosed, it’s an integral part of myofunctional orthodontics, due to the dependency on good soft tissue function for proper alignment. The TMJ is a complex joint, and symptoms of the disorder vary from patient to patient, often making diagnosis challenging.

Symptoms

You might have TMJ if you experience any of these symptoms:

  • Intermittent clicking in your jaws
  • Pain or tenderness in the neck or shoulder areas.
  • Discomfort when your mouth is wide open.
  • Popping or grating when you open/close your mouth, or chew.
  • Face-swelling
